V15 Fleet Captain: Steve Heinzelman

The Vanguard 15 is a well-designed, well-built, simple, and fast centerboard boat that appeals to both beginning sailors and experienced racers. It is raced with a crew of 2 but can accommodate another sailor or two for a day sail. It nicely fills the space in the CYC racing program between Sunfish and the larger keel boats. It's a simple boat - it can be rigged in 5-10 minutes and is hand-launched off a dolly. There aren't a lot of lines to worry about, but there's enough in the way of tuning to keep serious racers interested. It's a fast and fun boat. Yes, you will get wet sometimes, but that's part of the fun. V15's range in price from about $2000 (used) to $7500 (new).

The CYC V15 fleet races during the Sunday afternoon club racing, doing several short-course races. We also have our annual Muddy Mast Regatta, currently scheduled for Saturday July 21, 2012. If you are interested in trying out the V15 or joining us for a race, the fleet owns a boat that can be borrowed by interested sailors. Just contact us to set something up. We can also get you a ride or a crew spot of someone else's boat if you prefer.
