The J/22 class sailboat is ideal for large inland lakes like Canandaigua Lake. Its nimble dinghy-like response, compact size, and large cockpit make it ideal for 3-4 people racing in the varying winds of the finger lakes. The efficient class jib is size optimized for maximum performance and makes it easy to tack for most crews. The spinnaker can be flown by one person in the cockpit with a foredeck crew setting the pole. The J/22 is very portable and extremely easy to dry sail. It can be launched with 2 people. Those same 2 people can also step the mast, making the boat one of the more portable keel boats of its size.
