Poll on interest in occasional triangle or triangl...

I know that windward/leeward courses are often considered the "most tactical", but I'm wondering if there is interest in at least occasionally doing a triangle or combination course. My rationale for proposing is a) if I were in a boat with no spinnaker but which did have a jib, it seems more interesting, and b) our fleet makeup evolves over time, so I figured a poll may not be such a bad idea. The thought is not to change completely, but add input to the RC if there is interest. I know in the past this was mixed in, but its been a while since I've seen in. Thoughts?

I'll sail around what ever buoys are in the water and be happy to do so.  My vote if asked however would be to keep it as Windward/Leewards.  Unless it's SUPER big breeze where the boats can plane, reaches turn into a parade.  With my boat we only sail reaches in BIG breeze because it's safer.  The boat won't gybe dead down and fully loaded unless it's planing or surfing.  It won't unload enough to let you turn it.  So... we do reaches then and only then.  Also, if anyone cares about results... Reaches make it very unfair if there's catamarans or sport boats in the race.  They have to go on the hot reaches, so our only way to even the playing field is by sailing straight down and covering less distance.  If you make us have to cover the same distance they do...  There's no way we can compete and the ratings aren't set up for it.  But, all that said... if people are getting bored, I'm game to mix it up.

I’d like to see a mix.
Every style of race course has a disadvantage for somebody and their boat. Speaking as a Catalina 22 owner, with a swing keel, I’m always at a disadvantage racing against fixed keel boats. I race though because I want to continue sharpening my skills and because I love to race!

I’d like to see more boats get involved in the GO FLEET.

I use GO for practicing racing and the MC Scow fleet only does windward/leward courses in all of our one design racing.

So I’d rather skip the triangle and stick with w/l.

If the wind is high, then some planing on a triangle would be fun.

Celeste makes a good point.
For variety, if the wind is strong, include a triangle.

Good Morning: Does anyone know who ran the committee boat last night?
I'm looking for pictures that were taken of my boat since there is an issue with my new mainsail. A guy named Bill on one of the crash boats took a few pictures for me to send to the sailmaker, but he may have gotten my phone number wrong, as I have not received them. The sailmaker wants proof it is cut wrong.
Thank You!
Celeste

Tom Trabert and Carter Symmon were on crash boat.

Since the discussion in late June of having a triangle course thrown in sometime,...it hasn't been done yet.

Every week we have a start directly into the wind, the upwind mark and finish is also directly into the wind.

The upwind mark is setup almost directly in front of the club.

My comment is we have a whole lake. Can we move things a bit and get a taste for different areas of the lake?

Variations on the mark placements? Have a triangle course?

Thoughts?

Celeste

It has been discused with with our PRO that we would like to sail some different courses. Unfortunately with light wind we are pretty much stuck with a windward leeward course. The longer courses take too long.
