Sailing Fleets at Canandaigua Yacht Club PDF Print E-mail

Canandaigua Yacht Club offers many opportunities to socialize, sail and compete on the water, even without owning a boat!

Cruising Fleet

The Cruising Fleet races primarily in pocket cruising type yachts, typically 25 feet or less in length. Their racing is handicap adjusted so that anyone has a chance to win (if they're good). Cruisers enjoy an active social schedule year-round.  For membership information please email cyccruisers [at] gmail.com

J/24 Fleet

The Sailing World Magazine "Boat of the Decade" for it's popularity and competitive properties, is well represented here. CYC is host to the annual J-Daze Regatta which is the season opener for our local J-24 District. CYC has (13) total J/24's, (12) of which race every Sunday morning, making it a one-design mini-regatta every week right here at home! The CYC J/24 Fleet #88 actively represents our Club in regional competition, as well.

J/22 Fleet

With the nibbleness of a dingy, the swiftness of it's larger sibling, the cockpit of a daysailing vessel, a crew of only three people and a deck stepped mast for easy trailing to 4 fleets within an hours drive, make the J/22 considered by many outside the class, to be the "best boat for Canandaigua Lake."

Ensign Fleet

The CYC Ensign Fleet sails in the classic Pearson design. This 23 foot keeled boat is sweet sailing and provides a challenge to the helm and crew in racing mode. When not being raced the Ensign is a roomy , comfortable boat for family day trips or leisurely evening sails on the lake.

Shark Catamaran Fleet

The Shark is a beautiful, fast sailing machine. She is competitive on a boat for boat and corrected time basis with today's high performance catamarans, as her record in open regattas has established. She is also a fun daysailing boat. Shark Fleet #1 is a social group with a hang out on shore after weekly Sunday afternoon racing, dubbed 'Shark Park'.

Vanguard 15 Fleet

The Vanguard 15 is a simple yet fast 15 foot centerboard boat that appeals not only to the racing crowd, but to families as well. It can be easily sailed by a pair of teens, or with up to 3 adults - and some singlehand it as well. Check us out!

Sunfish Fleet

These are the boats we use for teaching sailing and for having fun in the quick Thursday Evening race series. Popular with all ages for their property of being easy to sail but hard to sail well, we love them.

Radio Controlled Laser Fleet #21

On Sunday afternoons you'll find members sailing RC Laser sailboats off the South end of the waterfront docks. These boats are purchased "ready to sail" - no construction necessary! Buy a boat and come out and join us for racing or just stop by to spectate and socialize! Contact members Nelson Habecker or Bill Blevins for more information.
